Cookie Policy

The short version
www.redblacktree.com (the “Site”) sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and loads no advertising, social media or cross-site tracking scripts. We count visits with cookieless analytics that we host ourselves, in India. We don’t record your sessions.
That’s why you won’t see a cookie banner.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels and device fingerprinting. Sites use them to keep you signed in, remember preferences, or track your activity across visits and across other sites.
What we do instead
-
Cookieless analytics. To understand which pages are useful, the Site loads a small script from our own self-hosted instance of the open-source analytics tool Umami, running on AWS in Mumbai. It records the page you viewed, the referring site, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and country. To count a visit once without identifying you, it derives an anonymous identifier on the server from your IP address and browser details; the IP address itself is never stored. It sets no cookies and writes nothing to your browser. It reads one value from your browser’s storage,
umami.disabled, which exists only if you’ve chosen to opt out. Query strings are removed from page addresses before anything is recorded. -
Opting out of analytics. Turn on your browser’s Do Not Track setting and the script records nothing. Blocking our analytics script with a content blocker works too, and the Site works the same either way.
-
Security and reliability. Like every web server, our hosting and firewall (Amazon Web Services, Mumbai region) record basic technical data for each request, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the date and time. This happens on our servers, not in your browser. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use and how long we keep it.
-
Security challenges. If our firewall sees traffic that looks automated or abusive, it may ask your browser to complete a check. If it does, it sets a single strictly necessary security cookie (
aws-waf-token) that proves the check passed. It holds no personal profile and expires shortly after. -
Links to other sites. Our social media icons are plain links. Nothing from those platforms loads until you click one; after that, the other site’s own cookie policy applies.
If this changes
If we ever add cookies, session recording, or other technologies beyond those described here, we will:
- update this page and list each cookie, its purpose, who sets it and how long it lasts;
- ask for your consent before setting it, where the law requires; and
- make it as easy to withdraw consent as it was to give it.
Controlling cookies yourself
Every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies through its settings. Blocking cookies won’t affect how the Site works.
